Themes & Options

Customized themes and objectives are an extremely important part of many events. Scavenger Hunts In Chicago (SHIC) works with event organizers to develop a customized theme and/or objective for the outing. An event theme is a great way to reinforce meeting topics or company values and cultures.
A storyline is often developed for the "Mission Impossible" Programs. The storyline is incorporated into each mission in order to tie everything together. For example, a popular storyline is that an evil villain has taken a fellow employee hostage or has stolen important company documents or trade secrets.
Teams are asked by a person portraying an undercover CIA agent to work together to solve a series of clues and complete a variety of missions that help raise ransom points and gain intelligence in order to find the villain's secret hideout. Along the way, the groups earn ransom points by completing missions, taking specified photos and gathering unique items. The secret hideout is usually a restaurant, a bar, a boat or even a baseball game where the group caps off the evening with dinner and drinks.
The following is a sample of themes that SHIC has developed and used with clients on past events:

A large food company recently had a series of meetings in Chicago to plan the product launch of a new cappuccino product. The theme for their meetings was "Top This". To stay consistent with this theme, SHIC built a "Mission Impossible" Program around the tops of things, toppings, etc. For instance, one of the missions required the group to go to a popular ice cream shop and load up a sundae with as many toppings as possible. The entire team needed to finish the sundae before continuing the adventure. The group also had to take a picture with someone in a top hat, collect a Topps baseball card, and complete a musical crossword puzzle that referenced songs and groups that have the word top in them (Four Tops, "Top of the World", Top Gun soundtrack, etc).

During the planning phase of this event, the client remarked that their competitor was seen as the "800 lb. Gorilla" in the industry. To add humor to the event, SHIC had a professional actor dress up as a pink gorilla representing the client's competitor. At the end of the client's meeting, the gorilla stormed into the room and took the top executives hostage by using bananas as weapons. A man dressed as a CIA agent appeared and provided instructions to the group on the missions they needed to complete to discover how to appease the gorilla and free the executives.

A large pharmaceutical company was celebrating the launch of a new product. The event began with an evil doctor from the company's major competitor stealing the documents containing the secret formula to this product. The company's employees were asked to solve and complete a series of clue sheets and missions all dealing with the major products produced by the company in order to rescue the formula from Dr. Evil.
A popular restaurant chain wanted to get everyone into the holiday spirit, so Scavenger Hunts in Chicago developed a "Mission Impossible" Program along the festively-decorated Magnificent Mile. One of the missions the group had to complete was to find and purchase Christmas tree decorations. Next, the group had to "decorate" one of their fellow team members as a Christmas tree as they sang "Deck the Halls". The team with the best decorations was awarded additional bonus points. The teams also had to find a Salvation Army bell-ringer and help that person collect money from five people.

An insurance company wanted to emphasize the importance of working together to develop an effective plan to produce more profit and decide how to best execute that plan. Therefore, all of their missions and clue sheets contained words or phrases that represented major elements of planning and executing. As an alternative to receiving points, each team received fictional money with their company logo printed on the bills. The team that earned the most "dollars", or produced the most profit, was the winner of the event.
